Three of the five richest oligarchs in Russia are Jews, and their wealth combined totals USD 38.2 billion, Russian weekly Finans reported this week.
According to a study published in the magazine, the wealthiest man in the country is Roman Abramovich, who is currently involved in the purchase of Israeli soccer team Hapoel Tel Aviv, owned by Lev Leviev.
The Jewish-Russian oligarch's fortune is valued at USD 18.7 billion, Israel's leading newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported Wednesday.
The two other Jewish Oligarchs, ranked third and fifth on the prestigious list, are Michael Friedman (with a fortune of USD 11.4 billion), and Viktor Vekselberg (with USD 8.1 billion).
In addition Russia also boats several Jewish millionaires, including Leonid Nevzlin, Michael Brudno and Vladimir Gusinsky.
Notably, the number of Russian billionaires is particularly high and stands at 50. Out of these, 39 have made their fortune in the oil business, and 40 are parliament members. Experts say that the majority of the new capitalists are associated with the country's president Vladimir Putin.
