Memorial Day Begins

Memorial Day begins tonight, Monday, at 8:00pm, at which time the nation remembers those members of security agencies who fell in the line of duty as well as victims of Arab terror.
22,123 Israelis died defending the country and in terror attacks since 1860. 20,506 have fallen since November 29, 1947 and 138 have fallen since last Memorial Day.
Immediately following the sounding of the one-minute Memorial Day siren at 8:00pm, the official state ceremony will get underway in the Western Wall Plaza in the presence of President Moshe Katsav, IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Dan Halutz and prominent public officials.
On Tuesday morning at 11:00am, the siren will sound for two minutes, marking the start of memorial services in military and civilian cemeteries around the nation.
The main service for fallen soldiers and members of security services will be held immediately following the siren in Jerusalem’s Mount Herzl Cemetery in the presence of the president and Interim Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.
At 1:00pm on Tuesday, the ceremony for victims of Arab terror will be held on Mount Herzl.
